Five time Olympic snowboarder receives Wattbike support in Japan

March 18, 2021 2 min read

Wattbike’s official distributor in Japan recently started supporting five time Olympian and alpine snowboarder Tomoka Takeuchi. Tomoka has been involved with snowboarding for the past 20 years, and she is a very familiar face on the Olympic and World Cup circuit.

Her career highlights include a silver medal at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, a bronze medal at the 2015 World Championships, and 15 podium finishes on the World Cup circuit. She also placed 5th at the 2018 Winter Olympics, but decided to take a break after that.

However, even at age 36, Tomoka isn’t done just yet, as she announced in August this year that she will make a comeback for the 2022 Winter Olympics that will take place in Beijing, China.

Local Japanese TV crews recently visited the Wattbike Japan headquarters to capture Tomoka's story

Following her announcement, Tomoka was put in touch with our Distributor in Japan by Japanese Olympic legendHiroyasu Shimizu, to support her comeback journey. Hiroyasu is already well known in Wattbike circles for utilising the Wattbike Health Assessment in Japan, so it's no surprise that he would see the benefit of the Wattbike for alpine sports as well.

Tomoka will receive training support and a Wattbike Nucleus on loan from our Japan Distributor, as well as Wattbikes in her training bases of Switzerland and Austria through our German distributor Woodway, to get her back on the slopes in better shape than ever.

February 2021 update:

This partnership has already come to fruition, as Tomoka won her first World Cup medal for the first time in four years on the 7th of February at Lake Bannoye in Russia. We can't wait to see Tomoka back in action at the World Championships on the 1-2nd of March.

Follow Tomokato see how she gets on with her Wattbike on her journey to the 2022 Winter Olympics.
