Major League Soccer in America recently returned to the pitch following its suspension as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The "MLS is Back" tournament was a one-off tournament to mark this return to action, and featured 24 of the 26 Major League Soccer teams.
The tournament was held behind closed doors from July 8th to August 11th at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. The tournament featured a group stage, which will count toward the 2020 MLS regular season standings, followed by knockout rounds. The tournament champion was the Portland Timbers, who beat Orlando City in an exciting final match that ended 2-1.
To ensure players were ready to get back into competitive action, 30 Wattbikes were supplied by our US Distributor Woodway and placed in the training and warmup facilities, with the option for each team to purchase the Wattbikes after the tournament.
The series actually made history, as it was awarded aGuiness World Recordfor the largest single location professional soccer tournament.
Wattbike are excited as always to be supporting innovative and groundbreaking events such as this one hosted by MLS, and we look forward to supporting their players with Wattbikes at future tournaments.
