Wattbikes were recently delivered to the United States Olympic Committee (USOC) in Colorado Springs to use for the build up to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and for their national talent ID programme.
The USOC’s talent-identification programme aims to build a pipeline of world-class athletes pursuing an Olympic sport. Nearly 4000 individuals submit online applications each year through the USOC’s website, and tryouts are held at 24 Hour Fitness clubs nationwide. This year 24 athletes advanced to the final phase, where the USOC hopes to find one winner for each participating sport. The winners will be invited to join the national team camps of eight sports: bobsled, skeleton, boxing, canoe/kayak, cycling, rowing, rugby and weightlifting.
In addition to testing, Wattbike has been supplying the USOC training center in Colorado Springs since 2014 for the use of elite athletes and coaches across a range of sports. The state-of-the-art sports medicine and sport science centre currently caters to over 500 top athletes and coaches.
“Wattbike has been an essential training and testing tool for the athletes at the US Olympic Training Centers,” said Alan Ashley, the USOC’s chief of sport. “Through the generosity of partners like Wattbike, the USOC can continue to support the elite US Olympic and Paralympic athletes’ performance objectives.”
